Meat Raffle Announces Sophomore Album; New Single “Days When I Was Happier”
Calling Akron, NY home these days, Meat Raffle has made a shift in their progressive rock sound, blending in emo and alternative rock for their soon-to-be-released sophomore album, Plausible Deniability.
Meat Raffle, which features Evan Anstey on guitar and co-lead vocals, announced their new album on social media Friday morning. The announcement coincided with the release of their new single “Days When I Was Happier,” which is now streaming on all major platforms.
Plausible Deniability features nine new tracks from the band, along with a remaster of their 2022 single “Tight Closed Fist.” Here is the track list:
1. Out of Reach
2. Existence
3. Means to an End
4. Tight Closed Fist
5. That Cat
6. Don’t Know A Thing
7. Kaiju
8. Days When I Was Happier
9. Plausible Deniability
10. Dust & Ashes
While their 2021 debut album Unintended Consequences told a fictional tale inspired by artificially intelligent technology, Meat Raffle dove into the quartet’s personal battles – those within themselves and the world around them – for Plausible Deniability.
In making Plausible Deniability a reality, the band enlisted renowned producer and engineer Jay Zubricky to record and mix the album at GCR Audio in Buffalo, NY. Zubricky’s credits include work with Every Time I Die, Dinosaur Jr. and James Taylor, among many others.
Not new to the stage, but new to Meat Raffle’s recordings, Anstey and bassist/co-lead vocalist Ian DeHaas took moments to switch places for two tracks, with Anstey playing bass and DeHaas playing guitar for “Days When I Was Happier” and “Out of Reach.” Other than those two tracks, here’s the who’s who of Plausible Deniability:
Ian DeHaas – bass/lead vocals/mastering
Evan Anstey – guitar/lead vocals
Luke Allport-Cohoon – keyboards/backing vocals
Nick Badeau – drums/backing vocals
Jay Zubricky – engineering/mixing
Plausible Deniability, with its influences ranging from Radiohead to Microwave to The Paper Kites, is due for release on all major streaming platforms January 19, 2024.
