Evan Anstey’s Live Band Changes Name
Since 2022, alt-folk songwriter Evan Anstey’s live band has performed under a simple moniker, the Dylan-inspired “Evan Anstey & His Band.” On occasion, they’ve also been the “Evan Anstey Trio.” But with the start of 2025, both of those names are now retired.
Wednesday on social media, Anstey announced that going forward, the band will perform as “Evan Anstey & the Old Ways” — a name to be borne by the three, four, and five-piece versions of his ensemble.
“We’d been considering changing the name for a while, and after discussing a bunch of different options, we settled on something simple, memorable and fitting for the music we play,” Anstey said.
“Evan Anstey & the Old Ways” is led by Evan Anstey on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and occasional violin. He’s joined by James Kibby on banjo and 12-string guitar, Ian DeHaas on baritone and electric guitars, Jon Koch on violin, and depending on the night, Ben Jones, E.C. Palmer or Scott Gypson on bass. Some of this year’s shows will include some guests, too, such as violinist Alaina Reed and bassist Paul Monaco.
Upcoming gigs in 2025 include appearances in Buffalo, Olcott, Lockport and Gasport. Venues such as Chop’s Shop, Hawley’s Grove and Duende at Silo City will play host to Anstey’s folky blend of indie and bluegrass. A full list of shows can be found here.
